JOIN USA 20-year-old girl and her mother chased and nabbed a youth who was allegedly following and passing lewd comments at her in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area on Monday evening.
The girl is currently giving her supplementary exam of class 12 and lives with her family at the servant’s quarters at an IAS officer’s residence.
The accused Manjeet, 22, is her neighbour and they knew each other even before Monday’s incident, a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.
The incident took place at about 7 pm on Monday when the girl was taking a walk with her mother at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri.
Manjeet allegedly first followed her and then began passing lewd comments at her.
The girl told police that she initially ignored him, but when he continued to misbehave, she warned him of police action and told him to keep away.
“When Manjeet continued with the comments and tried to get close to her, the girl called police control room and also informed her cousin and maternal uncle who live nearby,” said another police officer.
On learning that police had been informed, the accused then began fleeing from the spot, but was chased by the girl.
Her mother could not match the pace and stayed behind. The girl managed to catch Manjeet after a chase of a few hundred metres.
Meanwhile, police as well as the victim’s relatives had arrived at the scene. The mother told police the direction in which both had gone.
Even as the accused was trying to escape from the girl’s grip, police nabbed him. He was taken to Chankyapuri police station and based on the victim’s complaint, he was booked for molestation.
Manjeet hails from Rewari and had been working as an electrician. He was presented in front of a magistrate who sent him to police custody.
