Cyclonic storm Nanauk formed Wednesday over the eastcentral Arabian Sea, said a statement from the ministry of earth sciences.

The storm was formed near latitude 16.70 N and longitude 67.00 E, about 670 km west-southwest of Mumbai, 590 km south-southwest of Veraval and 960 km east-southeast of Masirah Island (Oman), the statement said Wednesday evening.

It was the result of a depression formed over eastcentral Arabian Sea in the afternoon of Tuesday, the statement added.

It will intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours. It will move west-northwestwards towards Oman coast during next 120 hours, the statement said.
