Yuvajanotsava, an opportunity to showcase talent: Naveeda

Speaking after inaugurating the district-level Yuvajanotsava here on Monday, she said that the role of youths is crucial for the success of the event and called upon all  youngsters to actively take part and make the event a success. She termed the occasion as an opportunity for the talents in the district to gain exposure.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagaraj lamented that folk arts were waning with the passage of time and the young generation should strive to preserve the heritage for the future generations.

“The present day young generation is carried away by the modern culture at the cost of th eir native culture. They have become slaves of television, cinema and other mass media and thus folk arts, one of the principal category of the rich Indian heritage is on the verge of extension,” he lamented.

The artistes of Shalivahana Gaarudi Gombe and Keelu Kudure Sangha drew the attention of the audience with their performance.  Contests were held in folk dance, folk songs, pick and speak, monoacting, harmonium, tabla, flute, mridanga, Bharatanatyam, Hindustani and Carnatic classical music. More than 250 artistes from across five taluks of the district took part in the event.
