KMAT scheduled for July 27

4,000 applications received so far for entrance test to MBA, MCA .

The Karnataka Management Aptitude Test (KMAT), 2014, the entrance test conducted by the Karnataka Private Postgraduate Colleges’ Association (KPPGCA) for admission to MBA (Master of Business Administration) and MCA (Master of Computer Applications) courses, will be held on July 27.

The last date for submission of applications is July 10. However, the deadline is likely to be extended further. Private college managements will, however, be giving primacy to the scores in the Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGCET) conducted by the government, to fill the seats.

Main objective

“Even though the dates for KMAT have been announced, we are not vigorously advertising it as we want the PGCET to get over first. The objective of the KMAT is to fill vacant seats after the PGCET is over,” said a member of the KPPGCA.

The PGCET this time is being conducted by the ‘Consortium for Conduct of PGCET – 2014’ that has B R Ananthan, the vice chancellor of Rani Chennama University, Belgaum, as its chairman.

The KPPGCA is also a part of this consortium and will therefore be promoting the PGCET before the KMAT.

“We do not want to compete with the PGCET. Rather we want to supplement it,” said the KPPGCA member.

As many as 4,000 applications have been received for the KMAT till now. “Just like previous years, almost 90 per cent of these applications are from those outside the State,” he added.

15,000 applications

Started in 2003, the KMAT receives as many as 15,000- 16,000 applications on an average, according to the authorities.

So far as the PGCET is concerned, on an average, as many as 19,000 applications are received each year.
