Two rowdies murdered as gangs clash in wedding hall

Two history-sheeters were allegedly hacked to death in a gang war at a wedding hall on the outskirts of the City on Magadi Road late on Saturday night.

The deceased are Suresh Babu alias Kuruda Suresh (28), a resident of Gangondanahalli, and Fairoz Babu alias Mattibabu (26), a resident of Rajagopalanagar, the police said.

The incident occurred around 2 am at Heritage Convention Hall, in Tunganagar near Herohalli. The police said they had identified a suspect named Guru in connection with the double murder.

“Suresh and Fairoz were history-sheeters with Rajagopalanagar police. It is not known why they went to the wedding hall. The police are ascertaining whether they had gone there to attend the reception or to extort money. The police have collected credible leads about those who carried out the attacks. They will be arrested soon,” said Magadi Circle Inspector Elagaiah.

The convention hall was booked for the wedding of Murthy of Rajagopalanagar and Ashwini of Andralli. Suresh, Fairoz and their three associates, who were drunk, entered the hall claiming to be close friends of Murthy.

Guru and his friends, who attended the wedding reception, were playing cards in a room after dinner. Suresh, Fairoz and their three associates joined Guru and his friends and played cards for some time, police said.

The police said that they picked a quarrel with Guru and his friends over sharing money at 2 am and tried to beat them. They are said to have threatened Guru to give them the money or face the consequence.

The police said that they went outside after Guru refused to pay them, but came back within minutes and tried to attack Guru and his friends with lethal weapons. However, Guru and his associates overpowered them and snatched the weapons. They dragged Suresh and Fairoz outside the hall and attacked them with the weapons, said the police.

They bludgeoned Suresh and Fairoz to death and absconded. Three associates of Suresh also fled the spot. On being alerted, the police rushed to the spot and apprehended Guru.

Suresh was a welder and was involved in three cases, while Fairoz hailed from Bijapur and was a automobile broker. They regularly visited places where people played cards, threatened them and extorted money, said the police. The wedding of Murthy and Ashwini took place on Sunday as the double murder at the hall did not affect the rituals, police said.
