R'than rape victim succumbs to burns

 After struggling for over 10 days, 15-year-old girl, who attempted suicide allegedly after being raped by neighbour, died on Sunday morning.

The girl died at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital. Additional superintendent Dr Ajit Singh said the body was handed over to her parents after post-mortem. 

“After treatment for over 10 days the girl succumbed to burn injuries. We tried our best but could not save the girl. Post-mortem has been done and we have handed over the body to the parents,” said Ajeet Singh, additional superintendent, SMS hospital. 

Several senior officials including district magistrate were present at the hospital. The girl was raped on June 4 after which she set herself on fire. She had sustained 45 per cent burn injuries and was undergoing treatment at SMS hospital. 

The girl had alleged that she was raped by Manish, who is also a tenant in the same building where she lived. She had gone to make an urgent call from his cell phone when accused pulled the girl in his room and allegedly raped her.

Police said the girl, a class 8 student, was in a state of shock following which she doused herself in kerosene and set herself on fire. Officials said her father is a security guard and her mother a tailor and both were at their respective work places when the incident occurred.

Police have arrested the accused Manish along with his friend Rajendra who, according the victim’s statement, was present at the crime spot and watched the rape happen.

Police said after the girl set herself on fire, neighbours rushed to help her and took her to the hospital. Senior police officials said girl had requested them to take strict action against both the accused. 

The state government has given Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the girl’s parents.
