IOA seeks NSF's views on Asian Games bid

Last Updated 16 June 2014, 18:10 IST

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary-general Rajeev Mehta has written to National Sports Federations and State Olympic Associations to send in their views over submitting the bid for hosting the 2019 Asian Games.

Mehta, who met the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach during the FIH World Cup at Hague, the Netherlands, on Saturday, said the government has shown interest in supporting the bid. The last date to submit the bid is July 1.

"The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Government of India have already shown their keenness in supporting a bid from IOA to host the Games," Mehta wrote in a mail on Monday.

"However, since we do not have sufficient time to call a meeting of the General House to take the approval/consent for submitting a bid for the hosting of the Games, I am requesting all members via this email to give their consent by e-mail either in favour of submitting a bid for the hosting of the 2019 Asian Games in New Delhi or against the submission of a bid."
