'Cong govt yet to take off'

Last Updated 16 June 2014, 20:04 IST

Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar said on Monday that the Congress government in the State, led by Siddaramaiah, was yet to take off, even a year after assuming office.

He was speaking to reporters in the city. Shettar said the government was in a slumber and the Congress leaders themselves were criticising it. He said that the coming elections to the Council from the graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies would be a reality check for the Congress.

The former chief minister said that internal bickerings were on the rise in the Congress and that there were plans to nominate disgruntled leaders to seats in the Upper House which should have actually gone to eminent personalities from the fields of arts, culture and literature.

Shettar said the ruling party was divided into two camps of original Congressmen and newcomers. Efforts were on within the party to destabilise the government, the former chief minister said.
