Mahasabha can't dictate terms to Cong: Minister

Last Updated 16 June 2014, 20:05 IST

The Congress will not be cowed down by threats of the Veerashaiva Mahasabha over protests against “denial of representation” to the Veerashaiva community in the Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha polls, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said.

“The Veerashaiva Mahasabha has no authority to dictate terms to the Congress. Selection of candidates for the elections is the prerogative of the party leaders,” the minister told reporters here on Monday.

Anjaneya said that all communities had been given representation in the Cabinet and it was lamentable that the Mahasabha had targeted the Congress. He sought to know the prominence given to Veerashaiva community in the BJP. “Despite being an influential leader of the community, B S Yeddyurappa has not given a berth in the Union Cabinet,” he remarked.
