Duo held for threatening to kill TN minister

Two youths were arrested by police near the Salem district of Tamil Nadu for threatening to murder a state Cabinet minister, two collectors and a former district judge. 

The duo sent these threats to state Revenue Department officials via SMS.

The messages were delivered to Revenue Divisional Officers Lalithavathi and Tahsildhar Kannan, police from the headquarters said on Tuesday. 

Pointing out the targets, they said that the duo threatened to murder Minister for Highways and Minor Ports Edappadi Palanisamy, Salem Collector K Magarabhusanam, Dharmapuri Collector Vivekanadan and former district judge Baskaran.

Following a complaint from the collector, a special team was formed to apprehend the culprits. One of the accused is employed at the Dharmapuri Engineering College, while the other works at the Salem Steel Plant, police said.

Police, who are maintaining tight vigil after the receival of the SMS, are now interrogating the duo to ascertain their motive.
