Departmental probe against Kalasipalya ex-inspector

Last Updated 17 June 2014, 20:07 IST

A departmental inquiry has been ordered against M L Purushottam, the DySP of CID, following the accusation that he assaulted and threatened a truck owner, besides demanding bribe, when he was inspector of Kalasipalya police station.

Purushottam recently assumed his new position after being promoted. “I have directed the DCP (West), Labhu Ram, to conduct an inquiry based on the order of the DG&IGP. Suitable action would be taken after the report,” Bangalore City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said.

Tameem Khan, who owns and operates a truck, had recently met the DG&IGP, L R Pachuau, and made a complaint about Purushottam. He claimed that a team of policemen had forcibly taken him in a police patrol vehicle (Hoysala) when he was standing near a mosque in Mavalli on June 2, and brought him to the police station.

They said they wanted to interrogate him. They abused and kicked him when he pleaded innocence, he stated in the complaint.

Khan alleged that Purushottam also abused him and demanded Rs one lakh for not registering a case against him. He asked Khan to get the money by 11 am on June 3.

But when the former expressed his helplessness citing his wife’s pregnancy, the inspector got furious and said he would bring several charges against him and ensure he was sent to jail, the complaint said.

Khan also claimed that some policemen even threatened to get his wife Reshma killed in an encounter. He said his family had taken shelter in a mosque as the local policemen had “terrorised” them.
