JOIN USThe vigilance squad of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) identified 39,935 unauthorised water connections in newly added BBMP areas that receive water from Cauvery IV stage II phase.
The BWSSB has disconnected around 20 per cent of the connections and is holding negotiations with at least 100 consumers a day, asking them to get their connections regularised.
Commissioned in October 2012, the Cauvery water project supplied water to the new areas and many unauthorised connections mushroomed.
But the BWSSB regularised 1,13,103 connections as of June this year.
The squads found 25,000 unauthorise connections in East division, 10,000 in North, 3,500 in North-West, 3,500 from South, 685 from South-East, 750 from West division. Around 1,837 connections were regularised during the inspection.
