A local court in Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh has issued an arrest warrant against Indian cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a particular religion. It directed the police to present Dhoni in court on July 16.

The captain was accused of insulting a religion by posing as god on the cover page of the magazine Business Today, dated April 13, 2013. The picture depicted Dhoni as Lord Vishnu and appeared alongside the title “God of Big Deals”.

He was shown holding products of several companies, including a shoe.  Irked by the advertisement, a local Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Y Shyam Sunder, filed a petition in court in February this year. Following that, the court had issued summons to Dhoni, which were returned on three occasions.

The court, while hearing the case on Tuesday, issued the arrest warrant.
