` 2,500 cr credit plan for Kodagu district launched

` 2,019 crore has been earmarked for the agriculture sector

The district credit plan with an outlay of Rs 2,500 for 2014-15 was launched by Lead Bank Corporation Bank here on Thursday. The credit plan has earmarked Rs 2,019 crore to the agriculture sector. Compared to last year, there was increase by Rs 327 crore to the sector.

Zilla Panchayat President S N Rajarao released the credit plan. Rs 102 crore has been earmarked for small and medium enterprises. Rs 148 crore has been set aside for other priority sectors. Rs 231 crore has been earmarked for non priority sectors.

The credit plan has set aside Rs 871 crore for Madikeri taluk. It was Rs 741 crore last year, Rs 958 crore to Virajpet taluk (829 crore) and 674 crore to Somwarpet taluk (549 crore).

Speaking after releasing credit plan, the ZP President called upon the people to repay the loans borrowed. Several banks are not showing keen interest in lending loans to different schemes of the government.

Out of 1,691 crore set aside for the agriculture sector during 2013-14, Rs 1,212 crore has been disbursed, thus achieving 72 per cent progress. In the crop loan, only 69 pert cent progress has been achieved. Out of 1,289 crore, only Rs 884 crore has been lent to the farmers. In the disburse of loan in agriculture sector, the Virajpet taluk has achieved only 54 per cent.

Out of Rs 688 crore only Rs 373 crore has been disbursed. Similarly, Somwarpet taluk has achieved 78 per cent progress and Madikeri taluk has achieved 88 per cent progress. Credit earmarked for small and medium enterprises is Rs 47 crore. However, Rs 60 crore has been disbursed.

Lead Bank Manager Arunachala Sharma, Corporation Bank Mysore regional deputy general manager Nagaraj Udupa and Assistant General Manager Lakshmipathi were present.
