Eko Vehicles showcases new hybrid scooter

US based Emerging Vehicle Technologies Inc has partnered with EKO for the development of thetwo-wheeler, Eko said.

The bike with  ‘Electric-Petrol Hybrid’ technology is fitted with high power electric motor and 70cc petrol engine. The hybrid range is 120 km/ltr as compared to the normal range of 40 km/ltr, the company claimed.  The engine wil have a torque and power equivalent to a 120cc petrol engine.

It will be available for sale from March 2010 and is priced at around Rs 40,000. The maximum  maximum speed is 65 km. The company said the bike has thee engine modes: only electric (when the bike will run on battery for 40 km on full charge), only petrol (it will give 65 km a litre) and hybrid (both electric and petrol will run together to give 120 km a litre of petrol). When the bike is on hybrid mode the battery will be charged automatically in the running and there is no need for charging.

Eko also announced the launch of a new variants, namely ‘Strike.’ This electric two wheeler is being offered at Rs 22,000, it does not attract road tax and being low speed does not need registration.
