Marathon in City on Oct 19

Come October 19, the running community in the City will have a reason to celebrate when it plays host to a full marathon.

While the route is yet to be finalised, the Bangalore Marathon will start at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium and touch Electronic City before finishing at the Sree Kanteerava.

“I’ve been running ever since my childhood and over the last few years, my friends in Mumbai and Delhi has always questioned me on why Bangalore does not have a full marathon,” said Arjuna awardee and Olympian Reeth Abraham while announcing the event at the press conference here on Friday.

Bangalore did have a full marathon, before the World 10K hit the roads, and it does have a midnight marathon now but nothing during daytime.

“Unlike Delhi and Mumbai, our weather is great and apt for running. We’ve been planning this for the last one year and so I am happy it will finally bear fruit.

There is a large running community in Bangalore and I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to bits on participating in a marathon. Marathons give cities an unique identity -- like Boston, London, Mumbai etc --  and we hope this is the start of a wonderful journey.”

In a bid to spread awareness and help the racing community prepare for the big events, the sponsors, Shriram Properties, will be conducting trial runs over the next two months.
