Cop injured during rifle training session

A constable attached to the Kamakshipalya police station was injured on his left hand after a .303 rifle exploded during a rifle training at Channapatna police training school on Saturday.

According to police, Manjunath was one of the 219 constables from the City who had been sent to the rifle training. During the training, Manjunath had accidently pressed the trigger twice in quick succession.

Two bullets were fired from the rifle followed by an explosion.

He was holding the rifle in his left hand when the incident took place around 11 am.

He was immediately rushed to Hosmat hospital in the City and he is out of danger, police said.

It is suspected that the rifle given to Manjunath, who joined the police service in 1998, was defective.
