Moodbidri celebrates cabinet berth for Veerappa Moily

The party workers were naturally elated by the position given to a leader from their place, who is also a poet, novelist, statesman and a former chief minister.
Similar celebrations were held in Hebri also.        
Born at Marpady in Karkala taluk on January 12, 1940, Veerappa Moily was the Minister for Small Industries, Minister for Finance and Planning, and also the Minister for Law, Youth Services, Culture, IT, Parliamentary Affairs and Education. He was also the chief minister from 1992 to 1994.
Later, he worked at the national-level, leading the Tax Reforms Commission and the Administrative Reforms Commission.
Though Tulu is his mother tongue, Moily is one of the significant writers of Kannada. His ‘Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam’ has come in five volumes and has been translated into Hindi also. ‘Suligali,’ ‘Sagaradeepa,’ ‘Kotta,’ ‘Tembare’ are his novels. He has also written plays like ‘Milana’, ‘Parijatha’ and ‘Premavendare’. He has ‘Halu Jenu,’ ‘Nadiyalli Samara’ and ‘Yakshaprashne’ poetry compilations to his credit.
Moily has been honoured with Sadbhavana award, Devaraja Urs award, Aryabhata award and Ambedkar award. Mangalore University has conferred a honorary doctorate on him.
