JOIN USCracking the whip on the parking mafia which has been fleecing city people, the North Corporation has fined eight contractors of over Rs 5.50 lakh for violating the terms and conditions of the contract in Karol Bagh zone.
During the inspection it was found that these contractors running parking lots in 12 sites were violating the rules.
“The parking did not have proper demarcation with yellow paint for allotted parking area. The parking staff were not wearing uniforms and the parking fee receipt were not issued through hand handled devices,” said North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s spokesperson.
The issue of irregularities in parking lots was raised in the last two Standing Committee meetings of the North Corporation.
Chairman of the Standing Committee Mohan Prasad Bhardwaj had directed to take stern action against those flouting terms and conditions of the contract.
The corporation also decided to declare those parking areas as ‘free parking zones’ where there are no contractors.
Additional Commissioner (Revenue) M S A Khan had said that the North Corporation has already made two parking areas in front of Delite Cinema and Subhash Place as free parking zones.

The issue was raised in the Standing Committee meeting of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday.
Councillor from Paharganj Virender Babbar had said that there are many contractors who are running parking lots exceeding the allocated area limit, adding, this causes a lot congestion on the road.
Chairman of the Standing Committee said that the civic agency should immediately conduct a survey to find out the number of areas, where there are no contractors and those areas where the contracts have been expired.
He added that the civic agency officials must conduct surprise visits to check whether the contractor gives a slip of the correct denomination when a person parks his vehicle.
There are around 115 parking areas under the North Corporation. According to the corporation, a contractor should take Rs 10 for a four-wheeler and seven rupees for a two-wheeler for 10 hours.
