District police arrest 5 inter-state thieves

District police have nabbed five inter-State thieves and recovered gold ornaments and other valuables amounting to Rs 17 lakh.

The gang, were allegedly involved in several cases of theft in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

During the arrest, one of the main accused in a heist of 12 kg of gold, worth Rs 3.5 crore, reported in Sriperambadur police station limits in Tamil Nadu was caught by the police.

The arrested are, Badshah, Srinivas -- both residents of Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu; Nagaraju, Lakshmaiah and Kendamma, all residents of Hunsur taluk in the district. 

Addressing a press meet, Superintendent of Police, Abhinav Khare said that the gang was spotted by T Narsipur police on June 22, while tracking the suspicious movement of a Tata India car, during night.

The following day, on June 23, police personnel succeeded in nabbing the five persons at a Choultry in T Narsipur.

Gold bangles and chains found in the possession of the accused were recovered by the police.

During interrogation, the gang has admitted to several instances of theft reported during the past three years, in the two States.

The gang had robbed a 25 gram gold chain during a fair at Mugur village, T Narsipur taluk during January 2014 and cheated a student off her 50 gram gold chain near Manasa Gangothri in Mysore in July 2012.

Heist

The gang with Nagaraju as the prime accused had involved in a heist, where they had made away with 12 kg of gold, worth Rs 3.5 crore belonging to jewellery stores, in Sriperambadur police station limits, Tamil Nadu in 2012.

While other members of the gang were nabbed by Tamil Nadu police and 10.5 kg of gold was recovered, Nagaraju had been absconding till his recent arrest.

In the heist, Nagaraju had connived with the driver of a logistics company and made away with the ornaments, Khare said.

He said that the gang was constantly on the move, causing difficulties to the police to arrest them.

During the raid by T Narsipur police, 540 grams of gold ornaments, a Tata Indica car and a motorbike was seized.
