Last Updated 30 June 2014, 21:07 IST

A Delhi-bound Air India plane that took off from Kochi made an emergency landing at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) here on Monday following a bomb scare.

After a thorough checking of the aircraft and the passengers, who were made to disembark, the security staff found that it was a hoax.

Air India sources said, after the AI 047 flight took off from Kochi at 8:40 pm, the airport got a “non-specific” call. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately instructed the pilot to make a landing at the KIA.

However, according sources at the KIA, a passenger onboard the plane, an Air Bus 320, received an SMS that a bomb had been planted in the aircraft. The passenger alerted the pilot, who immediately got in touch with the ATC which guided the flight to the KIA.

Meanwhile, an unclaimed bag in a Bangalore-bound Indigo flight caused a bomb scare at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, delaying the take-off by three hours on Monday. The bag was found on the floor of the plane when the flight was ready for departure. Checks revealed that there was nothing suspicious in the bag, reports PTI from Kolkata.
