Last Updated 05 July 2014, 20:03 IST

Students from various educational institutions across the City participated in a heated debate competition, which focussed on the current social and political scenario in India.

The event titled ‘The Bait Bangalore 2014', was organised by the Bangalore Political Action Committee ( B.PAC) and Debate Club on Saturday.

A total of 40 students from Christ Junior College, Amaatra Academy, Vidyashilp Academy, Sophia High School, St Joseph’s Boys High School and National Public School  battled it out against each other in three rounds. The participants spoke on various issues such as anticipatory bail, role of democracy, effectiveness of the Judiciary, freedom of liberty, among others.

While students from St Joseph’s Boys High School were against anticipatory bail and termed it as the most abused law in India, the team from Christ Junior College pointed out that the bail is necessary as it provides security from an enemy.

The students also discussed Public Display of Affection (PDA), its advantages and disadvantages.

The students were judged by panel of 12 judges and were marked based on content, presentation format, order of information and speaking. Christ Junior College emerged victorious and the runners-up were the team from Amaatra Academy. The winners will be representing the City at the final debate competition in Chennai on July 18.
