Rs 16 lakh stolen from shipping firm in Panambur

According to police, the money was kept for paying wages of the employees and for the purchase of diesel. Though two security guards and one supervisor was staying in the adjacent room, they were not aware of the incident. A case has been registered and investigations are on.

3 held for assault

Pandeshwar police have arrested three persons in connection with the assault on Mohammed Ashraf (27), a resident of Marnamikatte on Saturday.
The arrested are Hindu Jagarana Vedike members Sandeep Shetty, Nithin and Deepak. The three were later released on bail. In connection with the attack on rickshaw driver Farooque, Annu alias Pradeep has been remanded to judicial custody.

Old man robbed

An old man was robbed of Rs 1,47,500 at Bunder on Friday night.
A certain Ahamed Koya Mowlvi (72), a cashew merchant was sleeping by keeping the money under his head in front of a mosque when a 20-year-old youth robbed him. He had raised the money to go to Haj. A case has been registered.

11 hospitalised

Eleven persons were hospitalized after consuming ice cream in Bunder area on Saturday. Those who have been hospitalised include Ayesha, Aneena, Shagufa, Shamrath, Shafa, Almas, Shanu, Salman (all between 10 and 16 years). Besides, two pregnant women Parveen (25) and Shakeera (24) too started vomiting after consuming the ice cream. They too have been hospitalised. All the hospitalised are residents of Bunder area.
One of the family members of those hospitalised said that they were regularly buying ice cream from the particular vendor. However, all are out of danger. Meanwhile, the ice cream has been sent for test and the reason for the food-poisoning is yet to be ascertained.
