Woman, 2 children drown

The search is on for two kids who are said to have drowned in the pond.

The deceased has been identified as Netra, a resident of Parappana Agrahara village. The police, with the assistance of Fire and Emergency Services personnel are searching for the bodies of Netra’s two children - Mahesh (3) and Sneha (4).

According to neighbours, Netra pushed her two children into the pond and might have committed suicide.  Sources said, Netra, a native of Channarayapatna was depressed after the death of her husband, Govindaraju, recently. Added to it, her son Mahesh was having problems with his speech.

Cyclist mowed down

A cyclist was run over by a tractor on Begur Main Road on Thursday morning. Electronic City traffic police gave the name of the victim as Ramesh (30), a security guard and a resident of Laxmi Layout.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist was killed on the spot while his wife riding pillion is in coma after a speeding BMTC bus rammed into their two-wheeler on Bellary Road in the Yelahanka traffic police limits on Wednesday evening.

The deceased Bala Shanmugam (42) was a resident of Vinayaka Nagar. His wife Vimala is admitted to Columbia Asia hospital. The BMTC bus hired by a software company after dropping passengers at Sahakar Nagar junction rammed into the two-wheeler, police said.

Succumbs to burns

Deepa (27) who had sustained burns while lighting a kerosene lamp succumbed at Victoria hospital on Thursday morning. Deepa and her mother Soundarya (70) accidentally caught fire while trying to light kerosene lamp at their makeshift shed in Buddha Nagar on December 13. Soundarya died hours after admitting to hospital. The two hailed from Andhra Pradesh and had lost their husbands. They were eking out livelihood by doing menial jobs, the Nandini Layout police said.

Man sets wife on fire

A woman succumbed to burns after her husband allegedly set her ablaze in Old Madiwala on Wednesday night. Murthy, a garment worker, got furious as his wife, Bhagya, (20) started questioning him on his illicit affairs. In a fit of rage he doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze, police said. In her dying statement before Madiwala police Bhagya said that she was attacked by her husband. Murthy is absconding. The couple have a one-year-old son.

Inquiry ordered

The Police Commissioner Shankar M Bidari has ordered a departmental inquiry into the alleged dereliction of duty by Sadananda, a police inspector attached to the Subramanyapura police station.

The decision was taken based on a report by Banashankari sub- division Assistant Commissioner of Police and a letter by DCP (South). Sadananda will be under suspension .
