Hailstone rain: Growers seek compensation

Vasthare Coffee Growers Association and JD(S) leaders have urged to provide compensation to the crops destroyed owing to the hail stone rain in Chikmagalur.
Vasthare hobli received hail stone rain on May 19. As a result, coffee plants in more than 3,000 acres have been affected at Galipete, Gadabanahalli, Hosallipete, Mailimane, Kesarike, Tata Estate, Adakalli, said Association President T D Mallesh.
“Owing to hail stone, we can not get crop for the next two to three years,” he added.
KGF President Dr N K Pradeep, former president Athikatte Jagannath and others have visited the affected areas and have assured to submit a report to the government for compensation.
He said Coffee Board members, MP, MLAs, DC should visit the areas and make an earnest effort to provide compensation.
JD(S) leaders H H Devaraj, G S Chandrappa said even commercial crops and vegetables have been destroyed. The officials concerned should visit the spot and make a list of loss of crops.  
JD(S) urged to waive off the complete loan of farmers and coffee growers.
