WELL BEING

Q I had thick hair until two years ago. But I now suffer from terrible hair fall. In fact, I have lost most of my hair on my crown and I am very embarrassed. I oil my hair twice and week, and use a good shampoo every day.  I travel a lot on work. Could the change in water be the cause for my hair fall? Please help.

A It is perfectly normal to lose some strands of hair everyday — 40-50 strands a day is normal. Drink 10-12 glasses of water to eliminate toxins and keep your system healthy. Increase your protein intake by eating leafy green vegetables, especially spinach. Sprouts, pulses, fruits and dairy products must be part of your diet.

Ensure that your meals have sufficient vitamins, iron, protein and other nutrients. Use wholegrain flour in your rotis because it contains zinc, which stimulates hair growth. Start a simple exercise regimen because exercise improves blood circulation, hence hair follicles receive a healthy supply of blood. This stimulates the follicles and prevents hair fall.
