All of 20, Mugdha Chapekar has made a name for herself in the television industry with hit serials like Mere Ghar Aayi Ek Nanhi Pari and Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan to her credit. Her newest serial, a comedy called Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo, went on air recently. Explaining her role in Sajan Re.., she tells Metrolife, “I play the role of Aarti, a happy-go-lucky girl with no family. She is born and brought up in Mauritius and lives with her uncle.”  She adds, “Her uncle, who hates jhoot (lie), is everything to her.”

Aarti’s best friend is Apoorva. “He loves Aarti and her uncle fixes their marriage as Apoorva lies to him that he is from a joint family. He gets trapped and gets a bhade ka (hired) family, and the journey starts from there.”

Though she doesn’t have a comic role in the show, Mugdha is happy to be a part of a comedy. “I have worked in all kind of soaps, be it a drama like Nanhi Pari or a historical show like Dharti Ka Veer,” she says. Mugdha has even been a part of many commercials and Marathi serials. “Though my part is the only non comic character on the show, I have realised comedy is the toughest thing to do. The show has been a real learning experience for me.” Mugdha loved the script so much that she didn’t have an option. “I had planned to take a six-month break after Nanhi Pari.. but Sajan Re... happened and it was so good that I couldn’t say no to it.”

With established comedians like Sumeet Raghavan and Tiku Talsania being a part of the show, is it hard for her to control her laughter on sets? “Yes, it does happen. We burst out laughing during many of the takes.”

The pretty actress, who is a student of English Literature, admits that she actually wanted to be a writer. She has even learnt the basics of classical music.
“But abhi riyaaz nahi hai (haven’t had practice),” she reveals.

Does she plan to enter Bollywood in future? “Right now, I am really happy with television. I can relate to it really well,” she exclaims. “But I am a big movie-buff,” says the girl, who is a huge fan of Julia Roberts, Kajol and Madhuri Dixit. “Personally, I love watching their movies,” she notes. Currently, she is working only on Sajan Re... “I really hope the show does well as it is well written, well cast and well performed.”
