A police sub-inspector attached to Vijayanagar traffic police station was suspended for booking an innocent person and letting free an offender in a drunk-driving accident case

.

“Vijayanagar traffic police station SI Puttaram was suspended for dereliction of duty, based on a report submitted by DCP (West) S Girish recommending the suspension,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), B Dayananda.

An accident occurred near the Sumanahalli flyover around 7.45 pm, on June 8. Puttaswamy, who was riding a bike inebriated with two pillion riders, rammed a car. The car driver Ravishankar lodged a complaint with the police. After a medical examination, Puttaswamy was found to be heavily drunk, Girish said.

Ravishankar approached Puttaram three days after the incident to know the progress made in his case. However, the SI booked a case against Ravishankar, claiming the latter as an offender while letting Puttaswamy go scot-free.

Ravishankar brought the matter to the notice of Girish, who conducted a departmental inquiry. During the inquiry, it came to light that the SI had wronged in booking the case. The police said that the SI had a nexus with Puttaswamy and hence favoured him. The police will now register a case against Puttaswamy, the DCP said.
