Council elections from local body authorities passes off peacefully

Brisk voting was noted since morning at all the booths. The electorate - people’s representatives in local authorities were seen exercising their franchise with enthusiasm. Legislator K P Bachegowda was the first to cast vote at the Taluk Panchayat booth in Chikkaballapur.

Zilla Panchayat president Vinuta Srinivas, MLA V Muniyappa cast their votes in Shidlaghatta Taluk Panchayat office booth. City Municipal Council president M Prakash, Taluk Panchayat president Nalina Gowda, Zilla Panchayat member G R Narayanaswamy and others exercised their franchise in the City. As many as 404 people have voted in Chikkaballapur taluk.

District in-charge minister Mumtaz Ali Khan visited most of the polling booths. However, he did not enter into the booths. While it was expected that Union Minister for Law and Justice Veerappa Moily would come to Chikkaballapur to cast votes, the minister remained in Delhi.

In Kolar, legislator Varthur Prakash who had fielded B S Surayaprakash against Congress gave a surprise by coming to booth in the vehicle of Union Minister of State for Railways, K H Muniyappa and Member of Legislative Council V R Surdarshan. The Congress candidate Naseer Ahmed came at the last minute.
Speaking to reporters Muniyappa said that the pact between Congress and JD(S) had wider ramifications pushing the BJP to a corner. Congress candidate will win with highest margin, he claimed.
