Last Updated 21 July 2014, 20:03 IST

The outrage in Bangalore over the rape of a 6-year-old schoolgirl, who is the daughter of an Odia techie,  echoed in the Odisha Assembly on Monday with the opposition Congress and BJP members demanding a statement from the chief minister.

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Congress legislator Naba Kishore Das said the Odisha government should take the incident seriously as the rape survivor is the daughter of an Odia software engineer working in Bangalore.

“The chief minister, who also holds the Home Department, should talk to his Karnataka counterpart immediately and give a statement in the House,” the senior MLA said.

A few other Congress MLAs also urged the chief minister to take up the matter with the Centre and talk to the Union home minister.
