A 14-year-old boy died under mysterious circumstances at a government school in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Wednesday afternoon.

While police suspect he died of an epileptic attack, the victim’s family has alleged negligence on the part of school authorities and suspected he was beaten by a teacher.
A medical board has been constituted to determine the cause of the death, a police officer told Deccan Herald.

A case would be registered only after the autopsy report, the officer added.
The victim’s family had been informed by the authorities of Government Co-Ed Secondary School in Rohini sector 15 to reach the hospital where the boy had been admitted.

Sanjay Kumar was a class 8 student. His mother and some relatives reached the hospital to find that he was already dead.

The officer said initial investigations have revealed Sanjay suddenly fell near his classroom gate on Wednesday.

“His classmates informed the principal who found he was unconscious and his tongue was between his teeth. He was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” the officer said.

Sanjay’s uncle and other relatives are not willing to buy this version though. His uncle Anil told Deccan Herald that they found an injury on Sanjay’s head.

“He was beaten on his head because of which he died. The sequence of events narrated to us differs from teacher to teacher which makes us suspect they are hiding something,” said Anil.

The family, however, has been unable to speak to any student who could correspond with the allegations of corporal punishment.

Sanjay’s aunt Neha said the family was informed at 12.30 pm whereas the school authorities told them he died during the lunch break.

“The lunch break ends at 11.20 am. What were they doing till then? Their response has been fishy,” she alleged.

The family also said Sanjay was physically fit while leaving for school and he did not have a history of epileptic attack.
