While government sources state that the terms of reference for the committee is yet to be formulated, the members are likely to be asked to study the number of rape cases registered for the past few months, its reasons and the possible changes or amendments to the law which may be required for protecting women in the State.

Officials state that the department of law, the department of women and child welfare, the home department, the health and family welfare department and the education department are all co-ordinating in forming the committee.

The government is in the process of identifying the members who need to be nominated to the committee.
