Last Updated 31 July 2014, 20:22 IST

The CBI on Thursday registered a fresh case in the coal block allocation scam against a Madhya Pradesh-based company and members of the 36th screening committee.

This is the 23rd case filed by the agency in the scam. The fresh FIR came after the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) overruled the agency’s plans to close this particular case besides 13 others.
The agency had filed two cases after CVC intervention and sources said the agency might file 10 more FIRs in connection with the coal scam.

In the 23rd FIR, the CBI has named Revati Cements Private Limited, its directors Umesh Shara, Kailash Shara and Chinmaya Palekar and unknown members of 36th Screening Committee.

They have been charged with criminal conspiracy and abuse of official position. Despite being ineligible according to Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) norms, the company was allegedly allotted the Thesgora B/Rudrapuri Coal Block in Pench in 2008.

“It is alleged that the screening committee deliberately did not follow the guidelines and showed undue favour to the company. The investigation is continuing,” a CBI statement said. Searches were conducted in Indore and Satna in Madhya Pradesh. The company is based in Satna.

Last week, the CBI had filed two cases against Domco Smokeless Fuels Pvt Ltd in Jharkhand’s Ranchi and Vandana Vidyut Ltd in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur besides the companies’ officials.
