The police on Sunday brought two women for their alleged involvement in an extortion racket to Venjaramoodu near here in connection with a case of abetting suicide.

Bindiya Thomas and Ruksana – who had surrendered late on Saturday in Kochi – were brought here for investigation in connection with Ravindran’s suicide, an alleged victim of threats and pressure from the racketeers.

The extortion racket was exposed after a police complaint filed by Sajikumar, a businessman who along with Ravindran had come in contact with the women. Wilson Pereira, a friend of the deceased, later informed the police that Ravindran was driven to suicide by members of the racket who threatened him with videos that showed him in physically intimate acts with the women. Sajikumar also claimed that he was being harassed by racketeers who demanded huge amount of money.

Bindiya and Ruksana had surrendered Saturday night at the office of Kochi Range IG Ajithkumar and have been booked as the first two accused in a case of abetting suicide.

Speaking to reporters after surrendering, Bindiya said Ravindran was murdered and Sajikumar and Pereira could be involved in the murder. She also said Sajikumar had links with prominent political leaders and handled their financial transactions.
