Last Updated 05 August 2014, 19:38 IST

A Kashmiri youth has joined the ranks of Jihadi militia Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).  This was disclosed on Tuesday by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullahwho said a Kashmiri youth has been recruited into ISIS from Australia.

“According to the information I have, it has come to our notice that a Kashmiri youth has been recruited into ISIS from Australia,” Omar told reporters on the sidelines after inaugurating a rehabilitation complex at Jehangir Chowk here.

However, he said, there is no evidence that the ISIS has made any recruitment from Kashmir. On rising number of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border, he said it was a matter of serious concern.

“I have taken up the issue with the NDA government in New Delhi. We will also take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ,who is scheduled to visit Ladakh region of the state next month,” Omar said.

“Ceasefire violations happen every now and then. Our endeavour is to try to make sure that it does not have much impact on the general public,” he added. Earlier, while chairing a high-level meeting, which was also attended by a team of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), in Srinagar, the Chief Minister underlined the need for identifying the scale and magnitude of menace of drugs abuse for a coordinated response for its eradication.

“We should act promptly and effectively to nip the evil in bud,” he said and adding all concerned, along with the civil society, have to work in coordination and under one umbrella to check the drugs abuse and save the young generation  from falling prey to this menace.
