Bangalore to get funds for aerial surveillance

Six major cities, including Bangalore, will receive funds under the centrally-sponsored mega city policing scheme for aerial surveillance, the government revealed in Rajya Sabha.

“With a view to equipping police forces of the six mega cities of Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore, aerial surveillance has been included as a component of Mega City Policing (MCP),” Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in Rajya Sabha.

Under MCP, these six cities will get funds for advanced equipment including helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles fitted with high-powered cameras, sensors and other surveillance materials.

Data (video, audio, text) collected from these devices should be fed to the Command Control Centre for necessary action for both preventive and post-incident operations.

Under the proposal, a network of CCTVs will cover vital public places and critical infrastructure in the major cities including airports, railway stations, metro stations, bus stations, public hospitals, universities, schools and colleges, major crossings and roundabouts on roads and important government buildings.
