5 injured in cylinder blast

Five people were injured when an LPG cylinder exploded at a house near Kullappa Circle, near Kammanahalli, under Banaswadi police limits on Wednesday morning.

The injured were Shafiq, 23, a cosmetics shop owner, Gaurav, 26, and Bhupendra, 28, software engineers, Eramma, 45, a housewife and Nalini, 35, the house owner.

According to preliminary investigation, the cylinder exploded in Shafiq’s house, located on first floor of the two-storey building.

Around 6 am, an electric bulb was switched on which caused a spark, leading to the cylinder blast. 

The intensity was such that Eramma, busy cleaning the portico on ground floor, was thrown off near the gate and suffered injuries on her head and shoulder, police said.There are two portions on the first floor. 

Gaurav and Bhupendra were staying in one, while Shafiq and Kushalendra were staying in another, on the same floor. 

The ground floor has two houses. Eramma was staying along with her family in one, Nalini in the other. 

Passersby and neighbours, on hearing the explosion, informed the police, and shifted the injured to a nearby private hospital. 

The back portion of the house was completely damaged. Window panes and walls of neighbouring houses were also damaged, police said.
