The regional round of ‘TCS IT WiZ 2014’, an inter-school quiz contest, took place in the City recently. Around 11,000 students took part in the quiz organised by Tata Consultancy Service and six teams qualified for the final round.

The prizes were distributed by cricketer L K Rahul and Nagraj Ijar, VP and head of TCS Bangalore.

The six schools that qualified were Sri Kumaran Children’s Home, St Paul’s English School, Delhi Public School, National Public School, The Frank Antony Public School and Vidyanikethan. The highlight of the event was the animation-based quiz software with a unique format created by quiz-master ‘Pickbrain’ and his team.

One of the rounds was ‘Flip-Boarding’ where the teams were given a choice to answer the direct question or flip the same for an easier question but with a lower value. The ‘Dronning’ round comprised a set of countries and the team could choose a country and would get a question related to IT from that country. The Social-Local-Mobile round had teams getting a question each from social, local and mobile aspects.

Said Nagaraj, “This quiz is to create a sense of awareness and competitiveness among children. But what I saw today was that all the students have become strategists. They are more focussed on how to score than how much to score.“

The students tackled the questions brilliantly. Siddharth Srivatsa and C Harikiran from St Paul’s English School won the title and have now qualified for the national round. The runners-up were Barghav Cavale and Abhishek Krishna from Sri Kumaran Children’s Home.

“It’s not easy to become the defending champions and we are happy that we won it again. We had been preparing for the last one year. Now we are looking forward to the national round,” said Siddharth and Harikiran unanimously.

“It was no short of a T20 match. I was feeling more pressurised than the students who were quizzing,” said L Rahul. “It was an amazing quiz. I enjoyed it thoroughly,” said Ann who was present at the event.
