KSCA teams face elimination

NCA, Haryana CA take command on a rain-hit day

Both the KSCA teams – KSCA Colts and KSCA President’s XI – were in deep trouble after the end of the second day’s play in their respective semifinal matches in the KSCA all-India invitational Dr K Thimmappiah memorial cricket tournament at Alur grounds here on Friday.

KSCA President’s XI, after having been bowled out for 214 in their first innings on Thursday, needed quick wickets to peg back National Cricket Academy to stand a chance of wresting the initiative but they lost further ground at Alur (2).

NCA, resuming at their overnight score of 124/3, went on a leather hunt as they made 443 before being bowled out in 94.2 overs – they made 319 runs in just 62.2 overs of play on Friday before showers brought an early halt to the proceedings. NCA lead President’s XI by 229 runs and barring a miracle, they will be in the final.

Ankit Bawne (88), Deepak Hooda (83), Nikhil Naik (57) all made sizable contributions as the President’s bowlers struggled for rhythm in the face of some aggressive batting. Paceman SL Akshay (4/64) was rewarded handsomely for his efforts.

Colts in trouble

In the other match, KSCA Colts were staring down the barrel after a deeply disappointing day for their batsmen.

They were placed at 130/5 after 54 overs, trailing Haryana CA by a further 275 runs at Alur (2), when skies opened up.

Only Abhishek Reddy (41) put up some resistance as Ashish Hooda (2/30) and Jayant Yadav (2/29) accounted for the top order between them.

Earliery, Haryana, who were 384/8 at stumps on day one, were dismissed for 405.
