Abduction bid foiled, two held

Fleeing abductor attacks police, injured in firing

A fleeing history-sheeter sustained injuries in his right leg after a police inspector opened fire on him in Pulikeshinagar on Friday.

 The incident occurred during an operation to rescue an abducted employee of an LPG agency.

Praveen, 29, a resident of Bharatinagar, is involved in more than 10 cases including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and attempt to rape, was taken to Bowring Hospital for treatment. He is stated to be out of danger. 

Syed, the constable attached to Bharatinagar police station, who sustained injuries in the incident is recovering at the hospital, police said. Praveen’s close aide Kumaresh was arrested during the operation. Praveen and Kumaresh had abducted Srinivas, an employee of an LPG agency, on Thursday. The duo took Srinivas to Kolar Gold Fields and demanded Rs 20,000 as ransom from him. He managed to pay Rs 5,000 and told his abductors that he could pay the balance only if he was taken back to Bangalore. On Friday morning they brought Srinivas to the City and were to collect money from Srinivas’ friend. 

The police received information that they would pass through Kalpalli cemetery near Pulikeshinagar.

Police spotted the abductors and their victim in a moving auto. Praveen, in a bid to escape, attacked the cops with a machete. Inspector Nagaraj retaliated by opening  fire at Praveen. 

Meanwhile, Syed caught hold of another abductor Kumaresh when the inspector was involved in hunting down Praveen, police said.

The duo were involved in several criminal cases in Bharathinagar, Pulikeshinagar and Indirnagar, the police added.

Guard thrashed

Residents of Cubbonpet area caught and thrashed a security guard before handing him over to the Halasuru Gate police for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl on Friday.

Sunil Kumar, 33, a resident of Magadi Road, who works as a guard at a private firm, is the arrested. He has been booked under IPC Section 354A and POCSO, said the police.

Sunil Kumar enticed a 10-year-old, playing in front of her house at Papanna Layout, with chocolates. He took her behind the house and attempted to sexually assault her. Hearing the girl scream, residents of the area rushed  and thrashed him. Later, they handed him over to the police.
