The operation to extricate the body of six-year-old Thimmanna from the borewell in Sulikeri village of Badami taluk resumed on Sunday following the directions of Advocate General that the last rites should be performed only after conducting a post-mortem.

“Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar has clearly stated that the body should be extricated at any cost and last rites should be performed only after conducting a DNA test and the post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” district in-charge minister S R Patil said.
Doddarangappa, an assistant engineer of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Tumkur sub-division, has been making attempts to lift the body using “air compress” technique.

Meanwhile, work has begun on closing the tunnel dug to rescue the boy. Experts have estimated that it may take four to five days to level off the land.
