JOIN USFive women were killed and eight sustained injuries after a multi-utility vehicle they were travelling by overturned at Lakshmipura in HD Kote taluk on Wednesday. All the victims were on their way to take part in a betrothal ceremony.
The deceased have been identified as Sujatha (47), Gowramma (60), Prema (35), Kanyakumari (47) and Gowramma (65).
While the first three died on the spot, Kanyakumari breathed her last at HD Kote government hospital. Gowramma died on the way to hospital in Mysore.
All the injured were shifted to KR Hospital in Mysore for treatment. All the deceased were related to each other.
According to the police, the victims were travelling from Antarasante village to Handpost by the MUV.
The accident occurred as the driver of the vehicle lost control in his attempt to overtake a car.
The speeding MUV overturned and came to a halt after hitting a tree. The movement of vehicles on the road was affected for a while due to the accident. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after the postmortem.
A case has been registered against the driver of the MUV.
