'GPS in trucks to check diversion of food grains'

The State government will shortly instal Global Positioning System (GPS) in all trucks transporting food grains under the Public Distribution System in order to check their diversion to black market, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao has said.

The decision, coming after reports that food grains under PDS were being diverted to black market, will help track the vehicles, Rao told reporters after taking part in Independence Day celebrations here on Friday.

The GPS will help the officials track the movement of trucks and ensure that food grains reach the intended ration shops. Rao is Dharwad district incharge minister.

The Cabinet will be reshuffled and more legislators inducted once the byelections  are over, Rao said but declined to comment on the likely new faces in the council of ministers.
