Till recently the symbol of woman power in Karnataka politics and now a victim of male chauvinism, Yeshwantpur  MLA Shobha Karandlaje says she still has a good say in the administration, even though she was forced to step down as a minister during the recent crisis in the ruling BJP party. Deccan Herald spoke to Shobha Karandlaje about the development activities in her constituency.

Why is it that the Civic Amenity (CA) sites and lakes are in a bad state in your constituency?

It is true that the number of parks and playgrounds have reduced. We are now working towards their development.

Lack of development seems to be the hallmark of the revenue and rural areas in your constituency.

My constituency is spread across a vast area starting from Talaghattapura to Kengeri Satellite Town. Since independence, there has been no development in my constituency. For the overall development of Yeshwantpur constituency, I would need Rs 2,000 crore. Roads and underground drainages are being constructed in several villages. Also, we have taken up the rejuvenation of Talaghattapura and Hosakere lakes.

Do you still have hold over the administration even after stepping down as minister?

Yes. I am a dedicated public representative and am committed to the development of my constituency.
