Shops burnt, cops injured in Faizabad

A police outpost and several shops were torched in communally sensitive Faizabad town by a mob in protest against police laxity in the alleged gang-rape and murder of class 12 student on Sunday.

On Tuesday, people pelted stones at police and damaged some vehicles in Amaniganj are in the town prompting the police to lathicharge.  Some cops were injured in the stone pelting, sources said.
The mob burnt the Khandasa police outpost and also a few shops in the locality, the sources said.

Earlier, the BJP legislator Ramchandra Yadav led a protest march by the people of the locality.

Additional security personnel were rushed to the town to maintain law and order and the police were patrolling the area.

The victim was allegedly gang-raped and brutally murdered. Her body was dumped on a busy highway in the dead of night.

After being tipped off by a roadside eatery’s workers, police recovered badly bruised body of the victim near the National Highway connecting Lucknow and Gorakhpur in the neighbouring Barabanki district late on Saturday night.

Since the alleged culprits belonged to a different community, the incident triggered tension in the town.
The police have arrested what it termed the only culprit identified as Nadeem, a resident of the same locality where the victim lived.

Nadeem reportedly told the police that he had an affair with the girl and that he had thrown the victim out of the speeding vehicle on the highway after she insisted on marrying him and taking her to Delhi.
