The police on Thursday arrested a first division assistant on the charge of raping and cheating a woman who works as a receptionist at a City hospital.

The suspect has been identified as Ravi Kumar, 42, a resident of Upparpet.

Police said Kumar, married and having children, fell in love with the receptionist and soon both had a physical relationship. The 27-year-old woman had parted ways with her husband five years ago.

She turned up at the police station and lodged a complaint accusing Kumar of raping her for the last six months. “He not only raped me, but also cheated me. He promised to marry me and we ended up having a physical relationship. Later, he refused to marry me,” she told the police.

“We arrested Ravi Kumar soon after the complaint was lodged. He has been booked under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating). The police are interrogating him,” said DCP (North-East) Vikas Kumar Vikas.

Minor raped by uncle

A 32-year-old man was arrested on the charge of raping his minor relative on Thursday.

The suspect, Amjad, is a carpenter and resident of Chamundinagar in R T Nagar.

According to the police, Amjad’s eldest brother and the latter’s wife passed away about four years ago. Amjad became the caretaker of his brother’s daughter who had been staying with Amjad’s family.

On Saturday, Amjad’s wife left for her parents’ house. As the girl had fever, Amjad gave her some medicine and she fell asleep. Then he removed her clothes and attempted to rape her, the police said.

The girl woke up, went into a room and locked herself up. She went to her grandmother’s house on Sunday and told her what had happened. She said Amjad had removed all her clothes, but could not recollect if he had raped her. The family members then lodged a complaint.
