Voter exuberance marks election in Chikodi

Polling in Chikodi-Sadalaga constituency passed off peacefully, barring a few stray incidents, on Thursday. 

The polling percentage recorded at 9 am was 12.76 per cent. It rose to 31 per cent at 11 am, while 56 per cent and 71.63 per cent voting was recorded by 1 pm and 3 pm respectively. 

Long queues were seen in almost all the polling booths since morning as there was lot of enthusiasm among the voters. Women, with children in toto, cast their votes in large numbers. Youths were found helping the physically challenged and the elderly in casting their votes.

 MP Prakash Hukkeri, his son and Congress candidate Ganesh, MLA Shashikala Jolle exercised their franchise at polling stations in Examba. BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore and BJP candidate Mahantesh Kavatagimath voted at the polling stations in Ankali and Chikodi.
