Three children drowned when they fell into a water-filled ditch by the side of a narrow road, while walking to school, at Machenahalli in the taluk on Tuesday.
Sharanappa Jalagara, 8, lost balance and fell into the ditch. His sisters Shobha, 12, and Savitri, 10, got down into the water to rescue him.
They all drowned in the deep ditch.
Many people, including schoolchildren, walk on the narrow road every day, risking their lives.
