Suspected food poisoning claimed one minor in a government run residential school for tribal girls at Kendua under Ranpur police station limits in Odisha’s coastal  Nayagarh district.

It has left nearly 30 other students seriously ill. The government has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

According to official sources in Nayagarh district administration, all 62 students of the residential school felt uneasy and had fallen ill after they had their dinner on Saturday night. The superintendent of the school rushed 31 of the 62 students to nearby primary health centre after their condition deteriorated.

As their condition further deteriorated, 26 of the these students were being shifted to better health facilities in the district headquarters town of Nayagarh and capital city Bhubaneswar when one among the girls, identified as Mini Majhi, succumbed to her illness on the way.

The state government has ordered the Nayagarh district collector to conduct an inquiry and submit a report as early as possible.
