11 killed in Rajasthan accident

As many as 11 people were killed and 36 injured at Mandia bypass near the Pali district of Rajasthan early Sunday morning when a bus collided with a speeding truck. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

“The people who died were pilgrims from Utharada village in the Salumber tehsil of Udaipur. The bus was carrying pilgrims who were returning from the holy shrine of Baba Ramdeo – a local deity in Jaisalmer,” said a senior police official.

Officials said that 18 out of the 36 pilgrims sustained severe injuries. A case has been filed against the driver of the bus for negligent driving and the cause of the accident is being investigated.

Expressing grief, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the kin of the dead and free treatment to those who sustained injuries.
